At the park today

It is a nice day out and we were at the park. This park is a new park that has a really nice big play area and it is very busy. There is a sign that says no drink or food allowed so that is why we like going there. Last year it was clean and no one ate in the play area. This year I guess the rules no longer apply, there was tons of food all over. Kids were running with cookies in their mouths and playing in the sand box with cookies, people eating lunches and spilling food by the swings, a big bag of popcorn just open on a bench in the play area. Not only does this scare me because of food everywhere, but also it makes the new playground look bad when there is spilled food everywhere.

Kids were eating yogurt and drinking milk, all I was thinking was I need to wash Nathan's hands every time he touches something. I know that if your child doesn't have food allergies you are not going to even think of it, but at least follow the rules.

Hi,

I am going tomorrow for a soy challenge with my 1 year old daughter. She is allergic to dairy, eggs, soy, nuts and sesame.

I found your blog while looking up what to expect tomorrow. It always helps to know that there are others out there facing the same problems...

All the best to you and Nathan!

I can releate to this story totally. Today I took my daughter to the park to play (she has peanut and egg allergies), and a mom's group was having a picnic on the sidewalk in front of the swings because the grass was too wet. In addition to having granola bars everywhere, they had an open carton of hardboiled eggs, and there were eggshells and hardboiled eggs all over the ground. Couldn't let daughter play there today and she was so dissapointed.

Egg shells at the park. I would have been so mad, especially since egg is deadly for my Nathan. There is no way he could play there.

My daughter had a reaction at Disney World from sitting on a bus where some dairy residue must have been. We are super-careful now. I've actually thought about buying her white 'kid gloves' to wear in places like that. I saw another food allergic child at the library wearing them. Just found your blog..your son has most of the same allergies as our daughter. We found out when she was 9 months. Did you find out from a reaction?

Yes, they can pick up residue anywhere. Kid gloves isn't a bad idea and I thought Disney was one of the safest and cleanest places.
